Description
This coach-house and stables, built between 1896 and 1898, is located approximately 60 meters northeast of Woodleigh Hall. The front, which faces southeast towards the road, is constructed of snecked Drewsteignton stone, while the sides and rear are made of Drewsteignton rubble, all featuring granite dressings and a slate roof.
The structure consists of a central three-storey block that is three bays long, housing the coach house with accommodation above. Stables with haylofts are situated on either side, each covered by monopitch roofs. The gable end of the central block slightly projects forward from the stable ranges and is adorned with chamfered granite quoins and drip courses at each level. The coping on the kneelers rises above the pitched roof, culminating in a flat top section topped with a wrought-iron weather cock.
At ground level, there is a large round-headed coach house door, with a similar window opening above it on the first floor and a blind window on the second floor that contains a small keyed oculus. Each side features doors with windows above. All openings are either round or segmental headed, with chamfered quoins and voussoirs that include prominent keystones. The original three-pane paired wood casement window with a two-pane fanlight is located on the first floor to the left. Each side also has an arcade of six stable doors, with two loading bays above, and three second-floor windows overlooking the stable roofs. At the rear, a gable end stack serves the domestic accommodation.
