Description

CULMSTOCK PRESCOTT ST 01 SE 9/63 Periom headstone approximately 5 - metres south-west of Prestcott Baptist Chapel GV II Headstone. Dated 1769 in memory of William Periom. Hamstone. Upright slab with shaped head standing approximately 1.1 metre high. The top part is carved with a vase and hourglass flanked by winged cherubs heads and the inscription is framed by carved scrolls and foliage. The first word of the inscription is in Gothic lettering, the rest is Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. It records the death of William Periom in 1769. For Devon, this non-conformist memorial is both unusually early and unusually ornate.
