Description

This is an 18th-century headstone made of hamstone, located approximately 6 metres north of the aisle of the Church of St John in Yarcombe. The upright slab stands about 1.3 metres high and features a shaped head carved with a winged cherub's head flanked by scrolls. The panel below is surrounded by a frame decorated with scrolled foliage. The first word of the inscription is in Gothic lettering, while the remainder is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, though it is very faintly inscribed and difficult to read except in perfect lighting conditions.
