Description
Number 2 Davids Land Cottages is a mid-19th century cottage located in Down St Mary. The rear of the building is made of plastered cob and rubble, while the front features volcanic stone, with part of the first floor hung with red tiles. The cottage has a stone rubble stack topped with brick and a roof covered in interlocking red tiles that have unusual pointed edges.
This two-room plan cottage faces south, with the right (east) room being larger, wider, and taller, featuring a projecting rear lateral stack. It adjoins No. 1 Davids Land Cottages, also known as Bramble Cottage, which is two storeys high. The front has three windows, which are a mix of 19th and 20th-century replacement casements, most of which include glazing bars. The right two windows are set in the rubble front under segmental arches. There is a doorway to the left under a segmental arch, which is sheltered by a modern monopitch porch with a glass roof. The left room has tile hanging at the first-floor level, as does the left gable end.
The interior has been modernised, with plain carpentry details visible where exposed.
