Description

No. 71 High Street is a house, likely dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, built together with No. 72. The front is rendered and has a slate roof, with a stack featuring a brick shaft. The house follows a double-depth plan, with one room per floor and a passage to the right. The exterior has an asymmetrical two-window front, with projecting eaves supported by moulded brackets and a fascia running below the eaves. A flight of steps leads to a passage entrance on the far right, the passage paved with stone. To the left of the passage entrance is a recessed panelled front door with an overlight, surrounded by a stucco architrave with eared shoulders. A similar architrave frames the ground-floor window to the left, which is a late 19th-century two-pane hornless sash with margin panes. The first-floor window to the left is a tripartite sash; the central light has been altered to a timber casement, flanked by eight-pane outer lights. The first-floor window on the right is probably an original early 19th-century 12-pane hornless timber sash. The interior has not been inspected, but may contain original features.
