Description
This is a house, likely dating from the 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The walls are constructed of roughcast cob, and the steeply pitched roof is slate at the front and corrugated asbestos at the rear, likely originally thatched. A substantial rendered stack sits within the party wall shared with number 80. The house has a double-depth plan with two rooms wide. The ground level slopes to the rear, resulting in an extra storey there and providing rear access to a service yard. The building occupies a wedge-shaped plot, with the right return wall angled inwards towards the rear. The front elevation has two storeys, while the rear has three. The symmetrical front features a late 20th-century timber front door centrally positioned, along with two 20th-century timber 2-pane sashes on each floor. A small, single-storey brick outhouse, with a rounded corner and a 20th-century window, is located at the right end. The rear elevation has 20th-century casement windows and a central rear entrance door. The interior was not inspected. The building contributes to the group value of the listed buildings along Crediton High Street, and its tall rear elevation enhances the character of the streetscape.
