Description

The Paris headstone is located against the west gate gatepost of the churchyard of the Church of St Bartholomew. This small headstone, dated 1738, commemorates J Parish. It is made of sandstone and features an upright slab that is approximately 200mm wide and 450mm high, with rounded top corners. The inscription is crudely carved in capital letters, reading "I. PARIS MAY 2 1738," and includes a simple scroll design at the top and a heart motif with a lozenge in the dimple at the bottom. The headstone was likely placed in its current position in the 19th century.
