Description

Farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century or possibly earlier. The house is built of colourwashed cob with a gabled thatched roof, and has end and ridge stacks rebuilt in 19th and 20th-century brick. It follows a three-room lobby-entry plan with a single-story service wing to the rear right. The front facing the garden has two storeys and a five-window arrangement, featuring early to mid-20th-century three-light casement windows, and a mid-20th-century door centrally positioned to the right. Similar casement windows are found at the rear. A 20th-century lean-to porch with a concrete tile roof is attached to the service wing, which has a plank door to the left. The interior, which has not been formally inspected, is reported to contain chamfered beams to the service end and ovolo-moulded beams with bar stops in the hall and parlour. There are early 18th-century bolection-panelled doors, and a large, early 18th-century classical-style fireplace in the hall, distinguished by fluted pilasters, a dentil cornice, and a reeded panel. The rear wing contains a stud and panel partition with ogee-stopped chamfers which is adjacent to a staircase with a splat-baluster design to its upper section. This is an unusual example, for Devon, of a lobby-entrance plan.
