Description
Two cottages, likely dating to the early 19th century, situated on Bow Walston Road. They were constructed together and face south. The cottages share a mirror-image plan, featuring a large, centrally heated room and a smaller, unheated room. A central stack within the shared party wall serves back-to-back fireplaces. Paddocks Cottage, on the west side, now has a 20th-century porch added to the end wall, accessed through a door. Nymet Cottage retains its original layout, although the windows are 20th-century replacements with leaded glass, and the front door has a monopitch hood. Originally, the front was symmetrical, with each cottage featuring two windows and a central door. Paddocks Cottage has 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars; the original door has been blocked and replaced with a window, with access now via the end porch, which has a slate roof. The thatched roof is half-hipped at each end. Internally, the cottages have plain carpentry details. The larger room in Paddocks Cottage has a roughly finished axial beam, while a similar beam in Nymet Cottage has been replaced. Both feature rubble fireplaces with plain oak lintels, and ovens towards the rear. During renovations at Nymet Cottage, an 1806 halfpenny was found beneath a window sill. Nymet Cottage is depicted on Ordnance Survey maps.
