Description

This house, now subdivided, was built around the 1820s and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of mass wall construction, with a stuccoed external finish and a slate roof, which is hipped over the front projections on the left and right sides. The roof features stacks with brick shafts. The main block is a deep rectangle with shallow front projections to the left and right. A basement was originally used as a kitchen.

The left-hand projection has its ground floor converted into a garage. The front elevation is asymmetrical with a 1:2:1 bay arrangement. A corrugated iron-roofed verandah sits across the center front, behind French windows with margin panes. The right-hand projection has a pedimented porch, supported by Ionic columns, and round-headed windows. A good quality front door, dating to the 1860s, is positioned centrally, featuring decorative roundel mouldings and a fanlight with an elaborate glazing bar pattern.

An entrance to Holly Lodge is located on the left return, with a half-glazed door and margin panes. The garage to the left features a canted bay above, with a 12-pane sash window in the center and 4-pane sashes on either side, featuring keyblocks. The right-hand projection has a tripartite sash window with 4-pane lights.

The interior contains several features of interest including 6-panel doors, plaster cornices, a plaster frieze with lions’ heads, and an Italian marble chimney-piece. The rear verandah has Chinese Chippendale standards.
