Description

A pair of houses dating to the 1840s, located on St Andrew Street, Tiverton. They were constructed using a mass wall method with smooth plastering, and have a slate roof with gabled ends. The chimneys have brick shafts featuring corbelled cornices and decorative pots. Cast-iron rainwater goods are present. The houses are arranged with a mirror plan, each being one room wide and two rooms deep, incorporating half-basement kitchens and entrances accessible from the stair.

The exterior presents a symmetrical 2-window frontage with slight variations between the two properties. Each house features pilastered timber doorcases, distinguished by dentil friezes and projecting cornices; the pilasters display incised Greek key decoration, and the door reveals are panelled. Number 29 has fielded panelled reveals, a six-panel door with glazed upper panels, and a blind fanlight with spoke bars. Number 28 has a door with sunk moulded panels and a blind overlight; both houses include bootscrapers. All windows are fitted with moulded architraves, with 16-pane sashes on the ground floor, 12-pane sashes on the first floor, and 3 over 6-pane sashes on the second floor. The interior remains uninspected but may contain features of interest.
