Description
This is a house located at 13 St Andrew Street in Tiverton, built in the mid to late 19th century. The front is made of red brick with bands of blue brick, while the left side and rear walls are rendered. The roof is slated, and there are red brick chimneys on each side wall featuring raised bands of blue brick two courses below the top. The left-hand chimney has four old, round red pots.
The house has three storeys and a basement, with a symmetrical front that includes three windows and a central doorway. There are bands of blue brick between the storeys, with two courses of entirely blue brick enclosing one course where only the headers are blue. The doorway has chamfered and stopped angles, topped with a stone cornice supported by consoles. The door itself is a four-panelled design, with the two lower panels flush and featuring an incised Grecian pattern, while the upper two panels are moulded and now glazed. There is an old letter box, possibly original, and a plain fanlight above the door. The windows have chamfered jambs and arches, with barred sashes consisting of eight panes in the outer windows and six panes in the middle window.
The rear wall has windows fitted with late 20th-century plastic frames and glazing bars. The building is primarily noted for its contribution to the streetscape, as it maintains the scale of earlier properties on the street and is a significant element within the area. The interior has not been inspected.
