Description

The raised pavement is approximately 75 metres long, located between No. 1 Picketts to the east and the School House to the right. It likely dates from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The walkway features a pitched cobble surface, with some late 19th century grey machine-brick paths added, and is supported by a local mudstone front revetment topped with mostly granite coping blocks. The pavement is about 0.4 metres high at the eastern end and approximately 1 metre high at the western end.

Near the left end, in front of No. 2 Picketts, there is a flight of granite steps, and close by, a flight of mudstone steps in front of Greycott. Right of centre, outside Hillside, the pavement slopes down in a series of broad cobbled steps leading to a former carriageway, which is now covered in 20th century concrete. On the right side, outside Godfreys Cottage, granite steps lead up to the continued raised pavement, where a late 19th to early 20th century water pump is set into the retaining wall. At the western end, the pitched cobble surface is covered by 20th century concrete. Breaks in the masonry indicate that the pavement was constructed in stages.
