Description

Elston Headstone, dated 1738, is located approximately 15 meters south of the south porch of the Church of St Bartholomew. This headstone commemorates Esther Elston and is made of granite. It features an upright slab with an elliptical head, standing about 1.2 meters high. A simple inscribed line follows the outline of the stone and frames the inscription, which uses both upper and lower case letters to record the death of Esther, wife of Hew Elston, in December 1738. The end of the inscription is now buried.
