Description
This building is a workshop and shelter, located approximately 3 meters northeast of Underhill in Cheriton Bishop. It is likely from the 18th century and originally served as a wheelwright's workshop. The structure features plastered cob on rubble footings with a corrugated iron roof on the workshop, which was formerly thatched, and pantiles on the adjoining shelter.
The workshop consists of two rooms separated by a cob cross wall; the left room is a 2-bay space that is open to the roof, while the right end has a 3-bay shelter that is positioned at right angles. The shelter's cob wall faces the street and has a monopitch roof. The workshop includes high double doors on the left side, a smaller door, and an unglazed 2-light window on the right. There is a first-floor loading bay at the right end, which faces the road. The roof is an intact A-frame design with pegged, lap-jointed collars and trenched purlins, featuring a half-hipped end on the left and a hipped end on the right. This building is included for its group value.
