Description

Dudsall Cottage is a building that was originally three cottages, likely constructed in the late 18th to early 19th century, and was modernized in 1984. The structure is made of plastered cob on rubble footings, with cob stacks topped by 20th-century brick. The original thatched roof was replaced with a concrete tile roof in 1984. The building, which faces southeast, was originally a row of three two-storey cottages with cob party walls.

The former cottage closest to the road on the right had two rooms, while the others had only one room each. There is a gable stack on the right end of the right cottage and side stacks on the others. The front has a vaguely balanced arrangement of six windows. On the ground floor, windows alternate with the positions of original doors; the doors to the center and right are blocked with windows but still feature simple 19th-century wooden porches with panelled and glazed sides and gabled roofs. The window between the blocked doors has been replaced by a 20th-century door. Ground floor windows have simple wooden hoods. The left cottage has a three-light casement window on the ground floor and 12-pane sash windows on the first floor. The other cottages have late 19th-century 16-pane sash windows and a single fixed four-pane window above the central door. The outer fireplaces are exposed and feature plain oak lintels, including side-ovens. Inside, there are plain chamfered cross beams. The building was formerly known as Ashes Tenement and is included for its group value.
