Description

The small workshop at the rear of Barnside House is a 19th-century structure that now serves as storage and office space. It features a timber frame on the first floor, which is supported by a brick base at ground level. The first floor is clad in elm boarding, with parts that are tarred and painted, while the end wall of the ground floor is made of painted brick. The building has an old tile gabled roof.

The workshop has a rectangular plan consisting of three framed bays, with a pent roof that extends down to just above ground level at the rear, covering the single-storey section. It is two storeys tall in the front and single storey at the back. The southeast front has three bays and is equipped with a wooden gutter supported by three plain wooden brackets. The first floor features two 2-light windows on each side of a single light window, all adorned with delicate vertical glazing bars and glass panes that overlap above the lower ones. The ground floor has three 3-light mid-20th century casement windows, which are set under segmental arched heads with raked buttresses in between. The left-hand gable includes a loading door at the upper level.

Inside, the workshop retains its original wood-turning lathe.
