Description

Binfield Court is a large house set in landscaped grounds, built around 1830. It features greyish-purple brick with red dressings and red brick in Flemish bond, topped with a low-pitched, hipped slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan with a service wing extension on the north-west side and stands two storeys tall.

The exterior includes several chimneys with clay pots and sash windows with glazing bars, all set beneath gauged brick arches. The entrance front, facing north-east, has seven bays, with the two outer bays slightly set back and stone bands at the first floor level. The first bay is blank, while the ground floor windows are set in round arched recesses. A long casement window on the first floor leads to a balcony with iron railings over a Doric porch, which is accessed through a pair of half-glazed doors with a leaded overlight.

Inside, the sitting room features a ceiling cornice with egg-and-dart ornamentation and a white marble chimneypiece with panelled pilasters and scrolled brackets supporting a moulded shelf. The drawing room also has a white marble chimneypiece, this one with fluted pilasters and a carved cornice adorned with a vase and swags in the centre, as well as corn sheafs in the top corners and bead and reel ornamentation on the moulded shelf. The principal rooms retain their window shutters, and there is a geometrical staircase with metal balusters and a wreathed handrail.
