Description
The kitchen garden walls, dated 1748, are located approximately 2 metres north of Holcombe Court. Constructed from local stone rubble, much of the interior is faced with brick, and there is slate coping along the top. The large kitchen garden is situated on a south-facing slope behind Holcombe Court and is enclosed by tall walls on the north, east, west, and part of the south sides, with the remainder of the south side bordered by the service courtyard. The walls rise and fall to follow the contour of the ground. The east side is entirely made of stone rubble and features an entrance flanked by square section gate posts topped with pineapple vase finials. A date plaque is set into the inner face of the wall near the right gate post. The inner faces of the other walls are lined with brick. These kitchen garden walls are part of a charming group of ancillary buildings associated with Holcombe Court and other structures at the upper end of Holcombe Rogus village.
