Description
Whorridge Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with significant remodeling and extension in the 19th century. It is constructed of cob with a stone plinth, plastered, and features gabled-end slate roofs. Originally a three-room, cross-passage plan house, it now serves as the rear wing of an early 19th-century building. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a symmetrical front that has a three-window range, dressed stone quoins, and a central door surround. The first floor has three-light casement windows, while the ground floor features French windows below. The front of the wing facing the farmstead has four windows on the first floor, three of which are three-light windows with leaded panes, and one with twelve leaded panes, now set in the gable end wall of the front range. There is also a two-light window from the 20th century at this level. The ground floor includes a doorway into the former passage, a four-light window to the left with ten leaded panes per light, and a two-light window to the right of the doorway. The main range has rear stacks, with one likely being the stack that formerly backed onto the passage, and an end stack at the lower end of the wing, all featuring brick shafts. There is a stair turret at the rear of the former hall, forming an L-shaped plan, and a two-storey extension from the 20th century at the rear of the front range. Inside, there is a blocked fireplace at the lower end, boxed beams, and the roof is entirely from the 19th century.
