Description

BRADNINCH ST 00 NW 5/10 - Whorridge Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. C17 with extensive C19 remodelling and extension. Cob, stone plinth, plastered, under gabled-end slate roofs. A former 3-room, cross-passage plan house now forms the rear wing of an early C19 building. 2 storeys. Front: symmetrical 3-window range, dressed stone quoins and central door surround; 3-light casement windows to 1st floor, French windows below. Front of wing facing farmstead; 4 windows to 1st floor, 3 of 3-lights, 2 with 18- and 1 with 12-leaded panes, the latter now set in the gable end wall of the front range; 2-light C20 window also at this level. Ground floor with doorway into former passage; 4-light window to the left of this, 10-leaded panes per light; 2-light window to right of doorway. Rear stacks to main range (one probably the stack that formerly backed onto passage), and an end stack to lower-end of wing, all with brick shafts. Stair turret to rear of former hall, in angle of L-shaped plan; 2 storey C20 extension to rear of front range. Interior: blocked fireplace to lower end; boxed beams; roof entirely C19.
