Description

Gauntlet Cottage is a detached cottage dating back to the 17th century, located in Silverton. It is built with a cob structure, rendered with stone footings, and topped with a thatched roof that is hipped on the left side and half-hipped on the right. The layout consists of two rooms arranged around an axial hall stack which creates a lobby entrance, and a rear stack to the left-hand room, both with brick shafts.

The front façade has four window openings, with a central, half-hipped porch featuring glazed and boarded lower sections. The first floor has two-light casement windows of varying sizes, all incorporating glazing bars. Below the porch are two two-light windows, one on either side. A slate-roofed lean-to protrudes from the rear.

Inside the right-hand room is a chamfered beam with scroll stops. A fireplace is present, featuring a chamfered and scroll-stopped lintel along with rubble jambs. A minor amendment to this listing occurred on 27 August 2019.
