Description

Apple Tree Cottage is a house, originally two cottages, likely dating from the 19th century. It is situated on the east side of Lag Hill in Cheriton Fitzpaine. The construction is of plastered cob or rubble, with a rubble stack topped with 20th-century brick, and a thatched roof. The original layout was two 1-room plan cottages facing south-west, now combined into a 2-room cottage. An end stack is located on the left. The front has four replacement casement windows, dating from around 1984, with glazing bars. A 20th-century glazed door is on the right, sheltered by a late 19th-century flat hood supported on shaped brackets. The roof is gable-ended on the left and hipped on the right. Internal carpentry details are plain. The cottage is included on the listing for its group value.
