Description
Lower King's Mill House is a house that was formerly the mill house, located next to Lower King's Mill Cottage. It dates from the circa 1840s and features a mix of stone, cob, plastered, and roughcast materials under gabled-end slate roofs. The building has a double-depth plan with a rear wing and a cross-wing at the back. It is two storeys high and has a symmetrical front with three windows. The front includes 12-pane hornless sash windows and a central timber porch with a broken pediment, Tuscan pilasters, and panelled reveals. The door is panelled and topped with a semi-circular fanlight. The eaves are deep and supported by shaped brackets.
On the right side, the main range has double gables, with no window on the front gable wall. There are two 12-pane hornless sash windows at the rear. The wing features two 16-pane hornless sash windows on the first floor, with a French window and door below. The cross-wing has a 16-pane hornless sash window on the first floor and a later opening below. The rear wing is slate-hung on the internal face, which faces the backyard. Inside, the house retains its complete interior from the circa 1840s, including panelled doors and stick balusters on the stairs.
