Description
38 High Street is a house, now used as offices, built in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of cob, which is plastered over, and features a stone plinth at the base. It has a slate roof that continues with Number 40, which is also a listed building. There is an axial stack on the left side with a brick shaft.
The house is two storeys tall and has a slightly asymmetrical three-window arrangement on the front. The principal elevation has strip quoins. The first-floor windows are hornless sashes, with twelve panes above and eight below. On the ground floor, there are two larger sash windows, also with twelve panes above and eight below. The central entrance doorway is adorned with a pediment, console brackets, strip pilasters, and panelled reveals. The entrance door is panelled and is topped by a rectangular traceried fanlight. Behind this, the inner door features coloured glass in the margin panes, matching the overlight above. The building is part of a row of similar structures.
