Description

The building at 40 High Street in Cullompton is a mid-19th century house that has been converted into a social club and bar. It is constructed of cob, with a stone plinth and a continuous slate roof shared with the adjacent building at number 38, which is also listed. A brick chimney stack is located on the left-hand side. The two-storey house has an asymmetrical three-window front. The ground floor features three single-pane sash windows with horns, while the first floor has three hornless sash windows with sixteen panes each. A semi-circular headed overlight sits above the front doorway, which leads into a lobby. The inner door of the lobby has a glazed upper half with margin panes and a rectangular traceried overlight. The building forms part of a group with numbers 38, 42, and 44 High Street.
