Description
44 High Street is a mid-19th century house that forms one end of a long row of buildings. The house has a three-bay plan with a central entrance hall. It is constructed of cob with a stone plinth and is plastered. The slate roof is continuous with the adjacent No 42, which is also listed as Grade II. A brick chimney stack is located at the gable end.
The exterior features two storeys and a symmetrical front with three windows. There are six-over-six hornless sash windows on both the ground and first floors. The ground floor windows are positioned on either side of a segmentally-headed doorway, which has a six-panel door and a fanlight above.
Inside, notable features include a 19th-century dog-leg staircase with a ramped handrail and twisted balusters, 19th-century fireplaces, and 19th-century joinery, which consists of four and six-panel doors and architrave.
