Description

Garden Cottage is a cottage that was formerly a school, likely built in the late 18th century to early 19th century, and renovated and extended in 1947. The structure is made of plastered cob on rubble footings, with a rubble or cob stack topped with 20th-century brick and a thatched roof. Originally, it had a one-room plan facing east, with single-storey extensions added to the front and left (south) in 1947. The stack is located in the left end wall. The cottage has two storeys and features a one-window front and rear with 20th-century casements, two of which have glazing bars. The ground floor front includes the site of the original door to the left, which is now obscured by the extensions. The roof is hipped to the right. Most early internal features are hidden, and the roof is inaccessible, although the bottoms of the plain principals are visible. The cottage is included for its strong group value as it backs onto the churchyard. The 1947 extensions are not included in the listing.
