Description
Ash Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, and possibly earlier. It is constructed of plastered cob with stone footings and features a hipped thatched roof. Originally, it was designed as a three-room house with a cross passage and includes a rear wing, likely intended for the parlour. Each of the three main rooms is heated by rear stacks, which are either internal or partially concealed by later additions, all featuring brick shafts, with one being plastered.
The building has two storeys and a front elevation with a regular arrangement of windows. It has a five-window front, consisting of four three-light windows—two with 19th-century casements that have glazing bars, and two with 20th-century metal frames. There is also one 20th-century two-light window on the first floor. The ground floor has all three-light metal framed windows from the 20th century and two doorways, one of which has a leaded canopy.
The rear wing features a 19th-century casement window on its inner face and has a rear lean-to with a corrugated iron roof. Attached to the end of the rear wing is a two-storey barn that aligns with the main range, with each floor having a planked door, the upper one leading to a hayloft. The interior of the farmhouse has not been inspected.
