Description

Hill Head Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating to 1807. It is constructed of roughcast cob on stone footings, with a gable end slate roof. The house originally comprised two rooms with a central passage, accompanied by lower flanking ranges; the range to the left was likely a dairy, now a kitchen, and the range to the right served as a storage area, connecting to a range of farm buildings that enclose a small farmyard behind the house. The staircase is situated at the rear of the central passage. Brick shafts serve as end stacks. The front elevation displays a symmetrical arrangement with the central house projecting slightly. The main house has a three-window facade on the front, featuring 16-pane hornless sash windows to the first floor. A panelled, quarter-glazed door is set within an elliptical arch, sheltered by a porch with two turned posts and capitals. Flanking ranges each have a pointed two-light casement window with debased Y-head tracery on both floors. The rear of the house features a similar pointed window, with a datestone above. There is also an outshut. The kitchen exhibits an axial ceiling beam, shallow chamfer, and run-out stops.
