Description
The gateway to Palmer's Almshouses, located on the north side of Magdalen Street, dates back to 1487, although the almshouses themselves were demolished in the mid-19th century. The structure features a Heavitree stone doorway with a gable-shaped superstructure and white stone pinnacles. There is a re-cut tablet, beneath which is another tablet that reads "Repaired by Nathaniel Rogers, MD 1878". Additionally, the coping has an inscription stating "Repaired by the Chamber, Anno 1759".
