Description

Bowls Cross Gatepiers are two 17th-century granite gatepiers. Each gatepier is upright and square in plan, featuring a chamfered capital with a moulded top, topped by a large ball. These gatepiers resemble those at The Bowles in Broadclyst, which date to 1681, but they do not have any decorative panels. They originally marked the entrance to the Poltimore House estate, although they are not in their original position, as they are now placed wider apart than intended.
