Description
The Old Rectory is a house that was formerly the Rectory, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick, rendered, and has a slate hipped roof with a tumerised design and brick stacks. The main range of the building has outbuildings on the left side, and both sections are two stories high.
The front of the house is symmetrical with three bays; the middle bay is narrower and recessed, all beneath overhanging eaves supported by shaped brackets. The corners feature panelled pilaster quoins. The central door is panelled and framed by a panelled architrave, topped with a lattice barred rectangular fanlight. The upper windows are hornless sashes, with eight panes in the outer windows and six panes in the central window. The ground-floor windows have eight panes above and twelve panes below. There are also three six-pane hornless sash windows in a separately roofed block to the left. All the sashes are original.
A high rendered wall extends from the corner of the main block, concealing the appurtenances from the garden. The Old Rectory shares a similar design with Bampfylde House.
