Description
Lower Yartyford is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century. It is constructed from plastered stone rubble and features a thatched roof with half-hipped and gabled ends. The house has two storeys and a long facade with five windows. The windows are wood mullion casements with glazing bars, some of which have leaded panes and are framed by plastered rusticated surrounds. There is a panelled and glazed door to the left of the centre, which is sheltered by a 19th-century gabled porch. The building has stone rubble and brick chimney stacks at the ends and along the ridge.
At the rear (northwest) is a wing from the 17th century, creating an L-shaped plan. Inside, the house features jointed cruck trusses and a cross passage with a plank and muntin screen. There is a large open fireplace with a massive timber bressummer that extends over a round arched doorway to the side. Another open fireplace has a chamfered bressummer and stone jambs, and the ceilings are supported by stopped chamfered beams.
