Description
Higher Yartyford is a house dating from around the 16th century, constructed from stone rubble. It features a modern concrete tile roof with gabled and half-hipped ends. The building has two storeys and a four-window range, with modern metal-frame casements that include glazing bars. There is a central doorway leading to a cross passage, which has a modern plank door. A central ridge chimney stack made of ashlar has a crenellated moulded cap.
Inside, there is a plank and muntin screen in the cross passage with a cambered arch doorway, and a similar screen at the upper end. The house may have originally been a hall that had an inserted floor, featuring chamfered ceiling beams and a fireplace with a cambered bressummer and stone jambs, along with newel stairs. It is noted that the roof is said to be modern.
