Description
Redgate Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the 16th century. It is constructed of plastered and whitewashed stone rubble, topped with a thatched roof featuring half-hipped and hipped ends. The building has two storeys and a long range of six windows, which are casements with glazing bars, some of which include leaded panes. The doorway is off-centre and features a wide modern two-storey porch, with the thatched roof extending over it. The chimney stacks at the ridge and ends have been rebuilt in brick.
Inside, the farmhouse features jointed cruck trusses and a cross passage flanked by plank and muntin screens, with another plank and muntin screen at the upper (east) end that bears the carved date of 1567. The ceiling beams are stopped chamfered, and there is a central chimney with an open fireplace that has chamfered stone jambs and a cambered bressumer. Additionally, there is another chimney stack at the lower (west) end, which includes an internal circular oven.
