Description
Glen Close is a two-storey stuccoed villa dating to circa 1830-40, now divided into flats and subject to alterations and renovations. It has a low-pitched slate roof with wide eaves and terracotta chimney pots in a diamond pattern. The main south-facing elevation overlooks the garden, featuring a projecting central three-window section flanked by recessed bays of one window each. The central first-floor window is a four-light French casement with octagonal panes and an elliptical fanlight with radial glazing, accessed by a modern iron balcony. Other first-floor windows are recessed sash windows, also with octagonal glazing, and all have Venetian shutters. The ground floor includes a tent-roofed verandah, lowered centrally beneath the balcony, supported by octagonal columns with fanned brackets. The verandah extends across the recessed side bays, which have two-light French casements. The central section of the ground floor has two large, octagonal glazed four-light French casements. A conservatory with a canted end is located on the west side, featuring transomed octagonal glazed lights surrounding a hipped roof with a finial. The east-facing entrance front has been altered with later window openings. A Tudor-style doorway serves Flat No 1, and Flat No 2 has a tent-roofed trellis porch, likely a modern reproduction.
