Description
The garden boundary walls and two pairs of gate piers at Colyton House date from the 18th century to early 19th century. They consist of high stone rubble and knapped flint walls. On the north-east side facing Vicarage Street, there is a pair of very tall square brick gate piers leading to the stable yard, set on stone plinths. Also on Vicarage Street is the main gateway to the house, featuring a very large pair of early 19th century ashlar gate piers, which are square in shape and have a channelled key pattern with large caps. These gate piers are flanked by rendered quadrant walls that end in corner piers, which also display the key motif. The main gate piers include a wrought iron overthrow with a lamp holder, while the iron gates are of a later date.
