Description
Chantry Cottage is a house located on Vicarage Street in Colyton, dating from around the 17th century and remodelled around 1800. It is constructed from plastered stone rubble and features a thatched roof with gabled ends. The building is two storeys high and has a five-window range, with sash windows that include glazing bars. On the ground floor, there is a four-light ovolo moulded stone mullion window on the left side, along with French windows leading to a verandah supported by cast iron. The house has red brick chimney stacks at the ridge and ends.
To the left, there are slightly lower two-storey wings that form an L-shaped plan, also topped with a thatched roof. Notably, there is a quoin stone marked with the date 1664 and casement windows facing the road, one of which has leaded panes. Inside, the property features heavy chamfered ceiling beams with stops.
