2/111 Higher Venmoor Farmhouse and - attached barn to rear

Former farmhouse with barn attached to rear wing. Early C17 with later alterations. Roughcast cob on stone footings; gabled-end corrugated iron roof. Formerly a 3-room, through-passage plan house, the service end to the left of the passage. Internal end stacks; rear stack to hall, internal end emerging through slope of roof; all with brick shafts. 2 storeys. Front: 4 window range; 3-windows to ground floor; all with 12-pane hornless sashes. Door, panelled, with rectangular fanlight; scratch moulded doorway surround; simple canopy on console brackets. Rear service end wing with three 2-light C19 casement windows to roadside. The beam extends to the rear of this, the roof ridge at a lower level than the wing, and is entered from the road through an early-C17 doorway with cranked chamfered lintel, mitred and pegged into chamfered jambs, the latter with step stops. Interior: the barn with 3 base jointed crucks, morticed and pegged at apex, threaded purlins; much repaired, the collars replaced. Lath and plaster partition between barn and rear wing. Interior of house not inspected internally but the inner room ceiling beam visible, with ovolo-moulding and 2 fillets.
