Description
Sid Abbey is an early 19th-century villa, likely incorporating earlier fabric with Gothic additions and embellishments. It is two storeys, built of stuccoed and rendered material, with a steeply pitched gable-ended slate roof. Crenellated parapets run along the eaves and gables at each end. The main front of the building is not visible from the road, facing west. The south side features flanking projecting bays with crenellated gables. Between the bays are three windows. The first-floor windows are casements with three four-centred arched lights. There are Gothic French windows on the ground floor, alongside a glazed verandah. The projecting gables have tall, full-height pointed windows with false tracery at the top. The windows are transomed casements with diamond glazing, both on the ground and first floors. The west garden front has four windows on the first floor, two of which are small Gothic sashes, while the other two are casements with three four-centred arched lights, all with drip moulds. The ground floor has two large canted bays, one with Gothic sashes and the other with Gothic two-light casements, with projecting cornices. A single sash window has pointed panes and a drip mould. A central-centred arched porch has a quatrefoil opening in a castellated gable.
