Description

This detached house likely began as a late 16th-century structure, although it has been substantially modified, particularly in the early 19th century. The walls are plastered cob built upon stone footings, and the roof is gabled and covered in slate. Originally, the house featured a three-room layout with a through passage, with the higher-quality rooms situated to the left of the passage, and a rear service wing. A rear lateral stack provides heat to the main hall. The service wing has a large axial brick stack with set-offs, previously an end stack, while internal end stacks are present in both the wing and an inner room.

The front of the house presents as a Regency-style facade, with a symmetrical four-window range. The windows are casements: two and three-light examples to the first floor, with two panes per light and margin panes, and similar windows to the ground floor. A French window, also with a transom and margin panes, is present on the ground floor. A verandah once spanned the entire front of the house but now only remains covering the doorway, which has panelled reveals and a glazed rectangular fanlight. Cusped bargeboarding adorns both ends of the main range. The right-hand elevation mirrors the front, with a French window and two casement windows to the first floor, all similarly glazed. Other windows on this elevation are 20th-century replacements.

Inside, the main hall features ceiling beams with a chamfered, hollow moulding, while the service wing has cross beams, also chamfered with hollow step stops. A single chamfered door surround is found within the service wing. The roof was not inspected, but it is possible that two jointed crucks remain above the passage and hall.
