Description
Combe Farm Farmhouse is a farmhouse that served as the home farm to Combe House. It likely dates from the early 18th century and has undergone renovations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof that is hipped at both ends, with the roofs of the rear wings also hipped at the ends. The main range has an axial stack with a brick shaft, while the rear left wing has an end stack made of handmade brick.
The farmhouse has a U-shaped plan, with a south-facing main range and rear left and right wings. There are entrances on both the south front and the west side of the west wing, along with a later outshut situated between the wings.
The exterior is two storeys high and presents an asymmetrical three-window south front, which includes a 20th-century gabled porch positioned to the right of the centre. The first floor features three small pane timber two-light casements, likely from the 19th or 20th century, while the ground floor has two two-light transomed casements with small panes, which may be 19th or 20th-century copies of earlier windows. The right-hand window on the ground floor has been replaced with a 20th-century iron frame casement.
The left (west) return is symmetrical with three bays and has a recessed half-glazed 19th-century front door in the centre, flanked by two-light transomed windows on either side. The first floor has three two-light 20th-century casements, similar to those on the south front. The interior has not been fully inspected, but the west wing is described as plain.
