Description

Combe Farmhouse and adjacent farm buildings to the rear consist of a farmhouse, stable, and barn. The farmhouse dates from the 17th century and has undergone later alterations and additions, while the farm buildings were constructed in the 19th century. The structure is made from a mix of cob and stone, with some brick and plaster, featuring a gabled-end slate roof for the house and a hipped pantiled roof for the farm building range.

Originally, the farmhouse was designed with a three-room, through-passage plan, including a lower-end cross wing on the right side. It has two external rear lateral stacks that heat the hall and lower end, with additional stacks at the junction of the cross wing and main range, as well as another towards the left end of the main range, all with brick shafts. The building is two storeys high.

The front facade has a four-window range, all of which are 19th-century casement windows with three lights, though some have lost their glazing bars. There are two doorways, with the right-hand one leading into the former passage. A newel-stair turret with a slated pentice roof and small two-light windows is located at the angle between the front cross wing and the main range. The front of the wing features two 20th-century two-light casement windows, along with additional 20th-century windows at the right-hand end.

At the rear, there is a very large service-end external lateral stack with two set-offs and a separately gabled section, as well as a hall stack with two set-offs. Above a 20th-century lean-to, there is a single window and a two-light window. The farm building directly behind the farmhouse, now serving as a stable, was formerly a linhay and features late 19th-century openings.

Inside, the farmhouse has been significantly altered but retains chamfered, stopped beams and an unadorned fireplace. The roof has not been inspected, and no principal rafters are visible in the upper rooms.
