Description
Crofthayes is a detached house located on West End Road in Bradninch, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of stone, rendered, and topped with a pyramidal slate roof that features a rendered stack at the apex. The house has a rectangular plan and stands two storeys tall.
The front of the house is symmetrical with a three-bay design that projects, leaving the corners clear. There are four-light windows on either side of the entrance on both storeys, with each light containing six panes. Above the porch, which also projects, is a two-light window with six panes per sash. The upper windows are adorned with a small bead moulding along the chamfers. The porch itself features a Ham Hill stone arch that is segmentally-headed and has a hood mould above it.
The eaves are overhanging and supported by shaped brackets. The roadside elevation has a two-window range, with a total of four two-light ogival-headed casement windows, each containing 21 leaded panes and margin panes, along with colored glass in the apex. There is a pendant feature at the eaves fascia, and two similar windows are located at the rear of the house. The interior has not been inspected.
