Description

Knowle Cottage is a small, 18th-century cottage situated at Knowle Cross, currently undergoing restoration as of 1988. The cottage is constructed with plastered cob walls, lacking footings, with a 19th-century brick stack and a thatched roof. It has a two-room plan, facing south and backing onto a lane. The larger western room features a gable-end stack, and a stair turret projects to the rear of the eastern room. The two-storey exterior features a two-window front with late 19th and 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars. A 20th-century plank door is set within the doorway at the left end. The roof is gable-ended. Internally, there is plain carpentry detail where exposed; the roof was not inspected. Knowle Cottage is part of a notable group of small, thatched-roofed cottages at Knowle Cross and holds group value in this context.
