Description
Knowle Cross Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the 18th century and was modernised around 1970. It is constructed of plastered cob, possibly with stone footings, and features cob or stone rubble stacks topped with 20th-century brick. The cottage has an L-shaped plan, with the main block facing south and consisting of two rooms. The left (west) room has a rear lateral stack, while the right room has a possible secondary end stack. There is a one-room plan rear block at right angles behind the right end. The building is two storeys high.
The exterior is nearly symmetrical, with a two-window front featuring 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The central doorway has a 20th-century door and is sheltered by a contemporary gabled porch with a thatched roof. The roof is hipped at both ends. Inside, the cottage has plain carpentry details, and some old beams were added as replacements around 1970. The roof has not been inspected. Knowle Cross Cottage is part of a charming group of small thatch-roofed cottages at Knowle Cross.
