Description
Oroolong House and Thame House, formerly known as The Fernery, is a pair of adjoining houses located on Queen Street in Colyton. The buildings date from the late 18th century, with an early to mid-19th century wing for Thame House. They are finished in stucco and feature rusticated quoins, a stringcourse, a modillion eaves cornice, and a slate roof with gabled ends.
Oroolong House is two storeys high and has four bays. It includes sash windows with glazing bars, with two-light sashes on the left and right. The wide central porch is supported by Tuscan columns and features an entablature, a reeded round arched doorway with panelled reveals, a semi-circular fanlight, and a panelled door.
Thame House, the early to mid-19th century wing, projects from the right side, creating an L-shaped plan. It is also two storeys tall and has tripartite sashes along with single light sashes and a doorway facing the road. There is a 19th-century addition at the rear.
