Description
The building at 48 and 49 Long Street dates back to the 18th century, although it incorporates an older core. It is a three-storey structure. The second floor is a false front, created to appear as a gable within a taller parapet featuring moulded capping. A first-floor sill course runs along the facade. It has three windows; the windows on the false second floor are decorative and do not align with anything behind. The windows have flush architrave surrounds, and retain their original sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor features coupled sash windows to the left, also with original glazing bars and moulded frames. The doorway to number 48 is recessed with a four-panel door, a moulded door frame, and a flat hood supported by cut brackets. In the centre is a shop window with three lights, flanked by Doric pilasters with a decorative frieze and cornice. The doorway to number 49 is similar, although the door is recessed further and has six flush panels. Numbers 48 to 52 form a notable group.
