Description
Hussey's Almshouses, built in 1794 and rebuilt in 1875, consist of a long range of buildings facing south at right angles to the road. Numbers 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 14 are two storeys high, while the others are one storey with an attic. The buildings feature steeply pitched gable end slate roofs, with gables at the front of the two-storey structures topped with finials. They are constructed of red brick with stone dressings and have grouped diagonally set chimneys. Slit attic windows are present, along with semi-dormers on Nos 8, 9, and 10. The doors are adorned with ornate iron hinges and shaped arches, and are covered by stone bracketed hoods. Nos 1 to 14 of Hussey's Almshouses form a cohesive group.
