Description
Avon View is an early 16th-century barn located on Castle Street, specifically at No 2. This building is timber-framed with brick infilling, and the fourth northernmost bay has been converted into a cottage in the late 18th century. The cottage features a hipped gable end and a weatherboarded first floor. It has two windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor, all of which are flush architrave framed sashes with intact glazing bars. The door consists of six flush panels and retains remnants of hood brackets.
The former barn, now comprising three open bays at the rear, has a gable end and an old tile roof that is in a derelict state at the southern end. Despite its condition, the roof retains all its trusses, including queen posts with collars, tie beams, and teasel heads on the wall posts with arched braces.
Avon View is part of a group that includes Nos 77 to 87 (odd) and Nos 91 to 95 (odd).
